Augustino & Donna LoPrinzi
Those who are lucky enough to own a LoPrinzi know — it’s that almost indescribable element found
in only the finest instruments. Perhaps it’s the luthier’s skill in releasing the heart-sound
of the tone wood. It may be the result of decades of old-world skills, honed to the highest
level of craftsmanship combined with art. It could be the care and full attention given to each
instrument being created, no matter if it’s a fine guitar or ukulele.
All LoPrinzi instruments are handmade with you in mind. If you don't see exactly
what you're looking for here, let us know.
We'll special order the perfect ukulele for you!
Kerry Char
The “Char Philosophy” - We are in a "Golden Age" of Ukulele building.
There are better Ukes being made today than at any other time in the history of the instrument.
Today, Ukes are being used in everything from jazz to rock. To keep up with the needs of these new players,
luthiers are having to push the limits of this humble little instrument with wonderful results.
Spruce tops, cutaways, 6 strings, 8 strings, alternative woods; there are so many new things
people are trying. It is very exciting! That openness to try something new is a common quality
I have found among the Ukulele community and that's what makes building these things a lot of fun.

Mike DaSilva
Mike tells us “Making each ukulele is a unique experience. The variety of designs, sizes, woods and techniques
afford an infinite welcome variety to my work day.
I celebrate the wonder of wood everyday. I like to think about that koa tree that grew sometime in the 1800's
that contributed the tops, backs and sides of my 1930's Martin 3K. And my last name means "Of the Forest".
DaSilva Ukulele Standard Features :
- Book-matched 2-piece top and back with matching sides
- Hand-shaped, quartersawn Honduras mahogany neck
Ebony or rosewood fretboard
- 15 fret minimum, extended fretboard
- Fret position markers at 3,5,7,10 and 12 fret positions
- Matching side fret position marker dots.
- Grover 4B (black) or 4W (white) friction tuners
- Hand-rubbed nitro-cellulose lacquer finish
Wood :
I have successfully built great sounding ukuleles with a variety of woods.
Koa and mahogany are popular choices. I only use the highest quality, quarter
sawn tone woods for instrument tops, backs, sides and necks. For Koa instruments,
I generally use a 3A or better grade. And wood upgrades are definitely available.
Honduras mahogany, various rosewoods, ziricote, primavera, mango, fiddleback and quilted maple and other exotic woods.
Sitka and Englemann spruce, various cedars, salvage fir and salvage redwood is available for especially good sounding tops.
We can email photos of specific wood sets for your approval as part of the custom instrument ordering process.

Pricing is calculated on a base price for each body size and style plus charges for upgrades in wood and decorative elements.

Ron Saul
Specializing in Concert size ukuleles, Ron creates Ukuleles that are wonderful high-end instruments.
His company motto is that "everything else is just a toy" and they mean it. One has only to look at a
Saul Ukulele to see the fine craftsmanship and the tone is wonderful. They seem closer to a classical
guitar than a Ukulele!
One of the things that make Saul's ukes so popular is the exotic woods he uses: Oregon myrtle,
Honduras mahogany, Brazilian rosewood. The instruments start at $850 and go up to $3,000 for the
Brazilian rosewood with ebony trim and pearl inlay. Saul laid in a supply of the rosewood before
it became unavailable due to rainforest depletion which accounts for the price but he thinks the
Honduras mahogany offers the best tone.
Because Saul believes a stringed instrument sounds better if it's played and because he says
it helps relieve stressed glue joints he strums each string on his instrument one million times
before selling it.
If you prefer to custom order a Saul Uke, we can obtain a totally custom Saul very quickly.
